The Concept: "Join the Circle"

Though intertribal trade is not a solution for every problem in Indian country, it can greatly enhance the sovereignty of all Indian nations, provide for the economic betterment of Native peoples, and restore the exchange of traditions and languages that have sustained tribal cultures for centuries.

One of the key components to tribal economic development can start NOW through intertribal trade and commerce. Native peoples have been historically bound by ancient trade routes and trade based relationships. To encourage such intertribal trade, several Indian nations have developed preference programs that provide all Native vendors with certain advantages when competing for tribal contracts. The preference program is an integral part of the “Join the Circle” concept of Inter-tribal trade and commerce, Indians supporting tribally owned enterprises and individual tribal member owned businesses. Simply put, the promotion of Indians doing business with, utilizing services from, and purchasing products from other Indians.
